Skin Care Routine

Hi guys, today I’m going to talk about skin care routine, whenever you buy a new product you should know that when and how it used. In the skin care routine sequence does wonders, because skin gets benefit of each product if products are used properly in sequence. You should at least do a basic skincare like –

Here is a proper routine for daytime.

Cleanser – Lets begin with day time means pollution, sun and dirt.  So cleansing is the first step which you can follow every day. After cleansing your skin become free from bacteria and excess oil, when you use products after cleansing they are easy to absorb. You must wash your face with gentle cleanser.

Toner – Most of the people don’t use toners because they think that it’s useless and it’s harsh for skin, nowadays toners are alcohol free and helps to unclog and shrink pores and prevent breakouts and helps to remove blackheads, make sure that you use right type of toner. You can go for hydrating one which helps to hydrate your skin

Serums – Serum helps to boost your skin from dull and dry to shiny, glowy and healthy skin, go for serums which have hyaluronic acid which helps to plump up your skin. Serum helps to protect your skin from pollution.

Eye cream – Eye cream helps to reduce puffiness and fine lines; you can apply it every night.

Spot Treatment – Spot treatment can be used for treating dark spots of pimples, if you use anything based on acne treatment then don’t use it, but if don’t then go for it.  It generally contains hydroquinone which is a bleaching ingredient, and niacinamide which is vitamin B3 which helps to improve scar marks and dark spots. It should be only used on spots otherwise it can dry out your skin.

Moisturizer – Even if you have oily skin you must use moisturizer, this is the barrier to your skin which helps to prevent breakouts and makes your skin looks healthy.  Use a moisturizer which is light and gentle and hydrates your skin.

Facial oils – Facial oils should use in the last because no one can penetrate oils but oil can penetrate all the products used on the skin, these give your skin moisture and protection. Facial oils are good for sensitive skin.

Sunscreen – This is the most important part of skin care, no matter what, you should always use sunscreen every day even in cloudy day, and it protects your skin from UVA and UVB rays. Sunscreen contains zinc which helps in protecting your skin. Minimum 30 SPF is good enough for your skin.

This is a complete skin care routine, now I wanna share some extra information on exfoliation and night skin care.

  • Exfoliation is important as all the other stuff, it helps in blood circulation, removing dead cells from your skin and gives you a flawless look, there are two methods of exfoliation
  • Physical exfoliation which is scrub used directly on your skin, use these scrubs gently because it can make your skin red and irritated.
  • Chemical exfoliation which is AHA and BHA, AHA is alpha hydroxyl acids which includes glycolic, lactic and citric acid which helps to remove dead skin cells, and if you have acne prone skin BHA beta hydroxyl acid based exfoliator is good, it has salicylic acid.
  • Point to be noted don’t use AHA and BHA with retinols, it can cause irritation and redness on your skin, especially for sensitive skin people.
  • When you do night routine do cleanse your skin, use toner, eye cream and some treatment like serum/oils or retinoid and end up with moisturizer/ night cream.
  • Use facial masks and hydrating sheet mask, 3 times a week. It includes vitamins and other ingredients which are beneficial for skin.

What your skin actually needs and what should avoid based on your skin type  –

Dry skin – Dry skin is cause by some factors like harsh chemicals, unbalanced ph, dehydration, loss of body fluids etc, using soaps and loofah can dry out your skin, and reduce oil secretion on your skin, wash your face with lukewarm water, use gentle cleansers which has ceramides, it is helpful in moisturizing skin as well as cleaning, use mild and creamy soaps, cream or oil based cleanser, products which has glycerin is effective for dry skin. Moisturize your skin everyday and night, Apply sunscreen everyday even on cloudy day, apply facial oils or mineral oils before moisturizer helps to keep it hydrated. Use Shea butter, stearic acid, lactic acid and urea based products.

Oily skin – Our skin have some oil glands which secrete oil which actually hydrates the skin but too much oil can cause clogged pores and acne, and this is bit problematic for oily skin people, blackheads, roughness, large pores etc are common symptoms for oily skin, products which has salicylic acid, glycolic acid, beta hydroxy acid are good to use, use gentle face wash which has laureth carboxylate and alkyl carboxylate which helps to reduce acne.

Witch hazel is really effective for oily skin, it has astringents which removes excess oil and hydrates the skin. Using oil free moisturizer and water based products are good.

Combination skin – When you have oil on your T zone (nose, forehead and chin) and feels dry on cheeks is basically a combination skin type, for those who have combination skin should use mild, creamy or gel based cleanser also mild foaming wash can be good for their skin, avoid using soap and strong foam washes, use toner which has high antioxidants and using oil balancing moisturizer, mild creamy moisturizer are suitable for this skin type.

Sensitive skin – Allergic skin reactions, very dry skin, redness itchiness and burning reaction these are the problems which a person face that’s why gentle products are must for this type of skin, proper nourishment is much needed to improve complexion and clear blemish, use gentle face wash rather than foam wash it can be harsh on your skin, use products which has hydraulic acid which is a great moisturizer  and helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, hydrate and increase cells production and smoothen your skin. Use fragrance free products.

For sensitive skin you should avoid using foamy wash, alcohol based products, retinoids and alpha-hydroxy acid. Do not use waterproof makeup it can be harsh for your skin and waterproof makeup needs strong cleanser so avoid using them also do not use liquid eyeliners because they contain Latex which can cause allergic reaction.
